Holiday Hair Must-Haves

Hairfinity collage

Today our guest blogger is Carly from The Cupid Bow, who’s going to share her favourite holiday hair products, from restoring heat damage to reviving those dry ends and giving you beautiful beach hair.

If I’m not getting a holiday anytime soon, I might as well help you prepare for yours (I’m not bitter, promise). So I imagine you want to go away and come back looking as beautiful  and relaxed as possible, correct? We all want the best tan, the most freckles and the most luscious locks. Your hair can either go one of two ways on holiday; you’ll either come home looking like a sun kissed Greek goddess… Or like The Scarecrow out of The Wizard of Oz. In this post I’m giving you my holiday hair must-haves to help you get the best from your tresses.

  1. Coconut Oil

If coconut oil isn’t already part of your weekly hair regime, then it needs to be. This one isn’t just for holiday, this one’s for life. Ok, maybe a bit extreme on my part, but seriously, this little guy will not only do wonders for your dry ends, but for your dry skin, cuticles, lips and anything else that’s feeling a little bit Sahara desert-like! Smother it through your dry ends before bed, tie your hair up and wash out in the morning. Or you can even leave it in through the day as well whilst you swim, tan and sunbathe.

2.  Hair Masks

The main ingredient in my ultimate hair mask is free range eggs as they strengthen and condition your hair. It can smell a bit funny but it works an absolute treat! This will put some life back into your sun-sapped hair and you can either leave it in for 20 minutes or leave in overnight. Here is a super easy recipe for a DIY egg hair mask:

  • 1 egg
  • ½ lemon
  • 1 cup full fat milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

3.   Sea Salt Spray
What better time to embrace that out-of-the-ocean look, than when you’re actually just-out-of-the-ocean? Holidays are a great opportunity to let your natural hair flow freely, and a spritz of salt spray will give it that beachy, tousled effect. The shops are packed with overpriced salt sprays, so why not just make your own? It’s so cheap and easy to do! Get a plastic spray bottle and mix:

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 tablespoons Epsom salts
  • ½ teaspoon Himalayan salt or sea salt (however the second will add a bit of stiffness to hair)
  • 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera gel
  • ½ teaspoon conditioner

4.  Heat Protectant Spray
How many of you can actually raise your hand and say that you use a heat protectant before you style your hair with heat? It seems to be the one hair product we all overlook, but it’s definitely the most important – especially on holiday! Not only are you styling your hair a lot more as you’re going out every evening, but your hair is baking in those sizzling temperatures when you’re sitting by the pool! Make sure this one becomes a hair staple in your suitcase.
