Secrets for Faster Hair
Growth
Section One – Taking Care
of Your Hair
Pre-Washing
Using pre shampoo treatments can help to infuse your
hair with the moisture it needs to grow its longest. This is the best
time to apply hot oil treatments so that the excess oils can be washed
away during shampooing. The best pre shampoo treatment to use is Organic
Virgin Coconut oil because it actually penetrates the hair unlinke most
oils which only coat the hair. It should be applied like a hot oil treatment
before washing. After applying, the hair should be covered with a plastic
cap. Leave on hair for 30 minutes without heat or 15 minutes with heat.
Then you may proceed to washing.
Washing
Your choice of shampoo is very important. Shampoos containing harsh
sulfates strip the hair and should be avoided. The best type of shampoo
to use is one gentle, moisturizing, and sulfate free like Essentious
Exonerate shampoo. But at a minimum, your shampoo should not contain
harsh sulfates. Check the ingredients list on your shampoo to find
out if they are damaging.
Do not use shampoos that contain the
following sulfates:
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
TEA Laureth Sulfate
TEA Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
The following sulfates are gentle and
will not damage your hair:
Polyoxethylene Fatty Alcohols
PEG 80
Sorbitan Laurate
Decyl Polyglucose
Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Sodium Myreth Sulfate
A clarifying shampoo can be used once
a month, or to remove heavy buildup. A clarifying shampoo should be
different from your regular shampoo. It will contain harsher sulfates
than those in your regular shampoo.
Protein Treatments
Protein should be replaced in regular intervals and after any chemical
service even if your hair is not noticeably damaged. Hair can be severely
damaged from chemical processing (perms, relaxers, color, bleaching,
highlights, etc.) This is because these processes remove protein from
the hair. If this part of your hair care regimen is overlooked, the
results can be devastating.
How often should you use protein treatments?
Determining the appropriate intervals
for applying protein treatments will heavily depend on the condition
of your hair as well as your regular hair care practices. For damaged
hair, protein treatments should be used 2-3 times a month. To keep
your hair soft, moisturizing treatments should be used on alternating
weeks or immediately following the protein treatment. For example,
in the course of 6 weeks you could use a protein treatment on weeks
1,3, and 5. Then you would a moisturizing treatment alone on weeks
2, 4, and 6. For healthy hair, a protein treatment is probably only
needed once monthly.
How should the treatment be applied?
There are two types of protein treatments
that can be used. The first is the kind that will be washed out, and
the second is a leave-in treatment. For wash-out protein treatments,
they should be applied to towel dried hair and covered with a shower
cap. Most of these treatments require 30 to 60 minutes to elapse before
rinsing. You should refer to the directions of your specific treatment.
Another way to do a protein treatment is to apply it to dry, unwashed
hair. Leave the treatment in all day, then rinse out. Examples of
protein treatments are Essentious Rejuvenate Strenthening Protein
Treatment, Aphogee Protein Treatment, and Mizani Kerafuse. Follow
your protein treatment with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
For leave-in treatments, you would follow your normal shampoo and
conditioner with a leave-in protein treatment. This is not rinsed.
Moisturizing Treatments
Using heat appliances and chemical processes
remove moisture from your hair that needs to be replaced. If your
hair feels dry, you need to replace lost moisture. Deep conditioning
should always be done to the ends of the hair. If a deep conditioner
is applied all over, it should be followed with a shampoo (not clarifying).
How often should you use a moisturizing
treatment?
A regular light moisturizing treatment
should be used following every shampoo (unless a pre-shampoo treatment
is done). For very dry and damaged hair, a deep conditioner should
be used once weekly. Also, if you use protein treatments often, you
may need to deep condition (those that require a shower cap under
a heated dryer) also.
How should the treatment be applied?
Shampoo, then apply the treatment (conditioner)
all over and cover with a shower cap. The treatment should be left
in 20-60 minutes. For fine hair, the treatment should be rinsed, followed
by a shampoo. For thicker hair, it is not necessary to use shampoo
following the treatment.

Emergency Hair Rescue
Severely damaged hair will need special attention to drastically improve
its condition. Use the following regimen for four weeks before continuing
with the methods for washing and conditioning described in this report.
1. Do a pre-shampoo treatment, Organic
Virgin Coconut oil is best. You would apply it like a hot oil treatment,
cover with a plastic cap, leave on hair for 30 minutes without heat
(or 15 minutes with heat.)
2. Wash hair with a gentle shampoo. A moisturizing, gentle shampoo
like Essentious Exonerate is best.
3. Apply your protein treatment. If you are using an egg in your conditioner
as your protein treatment, you should not use heat. You should cover
with a plastic cap and leave on hair for 60 minutes. For other protein
treatments (that do not contain egg), cover hair with shower cap and
leave in for 30 minutes with heat. Heat should be applied with either
a hooded dryer (best) or by wrapping with hot towels while the treatment
is in the hair.
4. Apply your moisture treatment. Cover with a plastic cap and apply
heat for 15 to 20 minutes.
